New Roof? How Do you know it's time?
Routine maintenance and annual inspections can help prolong your roof’s lifespan of your roof — but, still, nothing will make it last forever. Sun, rain, wind and other elements wear down your roof over time, causing shingles and other aspects of your roofing system to curl, peel and eventually disintegrate.
Unfortunately, many homeowners don’t realize their roof has been compromised until it begins to leak or they notice other serious problems, such as water damage. If you notice one or more of these four signs, it’s time to schedule a professional roof inspection.
Broken, Cracked or Otherwise Damaged Shingles
Are your shingles or tiles curling, cracking, falling off or looking worn? Are you wood shingles beginning to split? If you notice any of these problems, or a loss of granules from asphalt shingles, then your roof system has begun to disintegrate and is likely nearing the end of its lifespan.
Interior Roof Leaks and Stains
Visible water damage on your ceiling, rafters or in the attic are obvious signs that your roof is leaking and needs immediate attention. Keep an eye out for stains or spots on your interior ceilings.
Exterior Stains and Damage
It’s important to regularly examine the exterior of your home and roofing system. Streaks on your exterior walls are a tell-tale sign of water damage. Mold or moss growth on your shingles also suggest a problem.
Storm Damage To Your Roof
Wind, rain, fallen trees, flying branches and other byproducts of major storms can severely damage roofs. If you have missing shingles or other signs of visible damage to your roof after a storm, call a licensed roofer ASAP to schedule an inspection.
