HOW TO KEEP TREES HEALTHY THIS SPRING

When you are amid winter with the cool months and the gloomy weather it can start to feel like spring will never come. Sunshine and warm weather seem long gone but as always, once the cool weather starts to loosen its hold, warmer weather will start to appear in no time and the sun will return. Soon the mounds of snow and ice are replaced with colorful flowers, green leaves, and tulips starting to come out of the ground. Not only does this help us to feel more alive and for things to look brighter, but it can also have you eagerly anticipating your time outdoors and in your yard.

You might start to notice as well that buds are appearing on your trees and that green leaves are starting to replace the bare branches. Your trees are going to begin to wake up after their sleep during the winter months and that’s why you want to start preparing early on. During the late winter months and early spring months, you can start your spring tree plan to make sure that your trees flourish as much as possible.

Take a look at our checklist of how to keep trees healthy this spring and make sure that your yard looks better than ever. By checking these items off your list and caring for your lawn in the best way possible you can ensure a beautiful spring and an even better summer ahead of you! Review this plan to make sure that you take care of your trees in the best way possible!

Start With Cleaning

Perhaps the most unenjoyable step but certainly the most important is starting with cleaning. After a harsh winter and even a mild one, your yard might be lacking in appearance. Chances are that your yard will be fairly messy after the storms, winds, and simply the destruction that comes with the winter months. So your first step is to go through your yard and make sure that your yard is thoroughly picked up before you start the process of taking care of your trees.

Prune The Trees

The second task that you’re going to check off is taking a look at all the trees in your yard and pruning them. Your trees may have taken a beating in the winter months which means that you’ll want to make sure they’re back to their best appearance. Before your trees start to leaf out and you see buds start to appear. Examine the branches to see if any are broken, diseased, cracked, or dead, and prune them if necessary. This is going to make sure that your trees are healthy and that they look their best!

Make Sure Your Trees Are Healthy

It’s not just tree branches that you need to look out for, it’s your trees overall that you want to make sure are healthy. Many of your trees may have had too much damage to them during the winter winds and might have weakened significantly. While you’re in the process of inspecting your yard make sure that you make a point to examine the overall structure of the trees in your yard. If you find that there are any dead or high-risk trees take the proper measures to prevent them from damaging your home or yard further by removing them. By doing this you’ll make sure that your home is both safe and clean of dead trees.

Take Care Of Your Plants

The next job that you want to tackle is taking care of your plants, shrubs, and perennials. Clean up any twigs or leaves scattered around the yard and take a look at your landscape beds. It’s not just the trees in your lawn that impact how it looks, you want to make sure that the shrubs and plants in your yard are all in top health. Pruning is important to make sure that your plants are healthy and that they appear the best that they can. Maintenance of your plants should be a priority during the spring months to make sure that they flourish during the spring months and the summer months ahead.

Prepare For Storm Season

Trees can be greatly affected since they’re one of the top targets for lightning. You want to make sure that your trees are safe which means that you take the proper protection to prepare for storm season. Think about having a professional install a lightning protection system so that your trees are safe and that they don’t fall during heavy summer storms. These systems will make sure that your trees aren’t affected and that the lighting takes a different path instead of harming your trees.
